the older bae-fans would know about this, i’m sure. the long-running charity project mooted years ago when our dear SATOVIC was still running BSJ (Blue Sky Joonie). every year in august, our japanese sisters would pool together to donate to the scholarship.
yea, am talking about the LSH (LEE SOO HYUN) SCHOLARSHIP.
i remember blogging about the story that started it all, and that was years ago. kindda a long read, this one, and not exactly related to wuri yong joon. but it’s certainly a story that’s about us, human beings, and although it’s got a tragic end to it, it’s still worth recounting the story coz it reminds us that the world can still be beautiful. (just like my other PAY IT FORWARD story…)
click HERE to read that old blog entry of mine that detailed the story behind the LSH scholarship and the japanese sisters’ involvement.
even after satovic closed BSJ, PESASA (made up of japanese bae-sisters who love BYJ) took over the project and it seems like till today, the kind ladies still press on with the project.

in a way, it’s also heeding what wuri yong joon has been telling us for years. i can still remember in the heydays of the so-called yonsama fever, every august would see fans sending lots and lots and lots of birthday presents to his agency. i remember there was one year the amount of gifts came up to something like eight tonnes! they had to rent extra space to accommodate the gifts and deployed extra staff just to go through the gifts.
and then they started posting notices every august to remind fans NOT to send him anything. instead, wuri yong joon told us to look around us. surely there’re people around us, nearer to us, who needed our help and support. so instead of spending money to buy him pressies, he always wanted us to go somethng good for the people close to us, especially the needy.
not sure when the annual notices stopped, but the bae-fans’ charitable acts have somehow become ‘customary’, keke! i rememebr in the past JOONSFAMILY too would have some charity component in their gatherings.
for PESASA, august 2010 also saw them working on the LSH scholarship. believe the gals have already shared their account on the japanese site, and they’ve also put up the english translation on KOB.
they used to post a copy of the account on QUILT too, but sadly, that platform is gone now. but hey, we’re more than happy to post their account here so that everyone can learn from this, and perhaps be reminded to help the needy.
Our 13th Donation Gift
August 29, 2010
Dear Yong Joon-ssi,
We are in our 7th summer since your first visit to Japan. Both Korea and Japan are experiencing an exceptionally hot summer, but I hope you have been well.
Congratulations on your 38th birthday!
Again on this day, we the “BYJ and LSH Supporters in Japan” will like to give you the gift of happiness – our donation to the LSH (Lee Soo Hyun) Asia Scholarship.
Respecting the wishes of the late Lee Soo Hyun-ssi and his parents in Korea, the websites of Tokyo and Hokkaido together called out to our friends in aim of supporting as many Asian students as possible who wish to study in Japan.
As a result, we were able to collect 154 donations from kajok all over Japan, amounting to 536,700 yen.
Ever since 2004, we have been offering this donation gift every year, both on your birthday and Valentine’s Day, and this will be our 13th time.
It gives us great pleasure to be able to give you this gift every time, and we are also very grateful that we are able to feel connected to you by continuing this activity.
Please accept this heartfelt gift from the 154 us.
We also have something wonderful to share with you.
In the June 12, 2010 edition of The Nikkei, an article introduced the donation project carried out by “BYJ and LSH Supporters in Japan”. The Nikkei is a leading national newspaper read by the majority of Japanese businessmen.
We are happy that people all over Japan now know that Yong Joon-ssi’s kajok is making an effort to serve as a bridge between Japan and Korea in our own small way.
We look forward to the “Message! To Asia” event at Tokyo Dome on December 14 this year as well as the drama “Dream High” scheduled to start on January 3, 2011.
Please keep smiling and live like a flower always.
Once again, happy birthday!
From,
PESASA (BYJ and LSH Supporters in Japan) MARInet
